Kings County Academy is a primary to grade eight school located in Kentville, Nova Scotia and is part of the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board. In addition to the regular elementary and junior high course offering, KCA offers a French Immersion programme inclusive of grades primary to grade 8. The school has a total enrollment of approximately 614 students and 70 staff members serving the needs of its students. Upon completing grade eight, students leaving KCA attend Northeast Kings Education Center in Canning.

KCA has a long history and a strong community base.

KCA is also a PEBS (Positive, Effective, Behavior Support) School. This means we identify and clearly communicate to students what positive behavior expectations are and support them in meeting these expectations. Click here to see our PEBS matrix which outlines our expectations for student behavior in various locations around the school.

REPORT CARDS/TRANSFERS/CLASSLISTS

Each year, due to issues related to enrollment and class caps, I will review all students who were here on transfers. In fact, board policy states, “It is necessary to re-apply for a transfer each year once it has been approved.” The issues related to class size continue to be an issue, so I am making sure that all families that are here on transfers understand the need to re-apply. Forms for transfer students will go home with them before the end of the year. As the policy states, I will base my decisions to accept transfers on class size/configuration, school history (behaviour, academics, etc.), and other factors. Students attending KCA from outside our catchment area that are in our regional immersion program are not considered transfer students, so this policy does not apply to those students and families.

In late August, we will be posting information related to class lists. As we did last year, to protect privacy, we are listing only the last 4 digits of the student ID number, which is available at the top of all report cards. Parents/guardians should bring a copy of the report card or at least have their student number written down when coming to look at the lists so that they can match that number with their son/daughters’ names. We also ask that you not take photos of this information when it is posted or post classlist information on websites like Facebook. Please monitor our website for when this information will be available.

A few other things to note; first, report cards cannot be given out before Monday, June 30 and will not be mailed out after the fact due to the costs of doing so. If a student is not here on June 30, families can pick up report cards from the office from July 2-4 from 9am to 1pm.  Second, the school office will be closed as of July 9 and will re-open Monday, August 25. Lastly, if you require bus information over the summer, please call Stock Transportation Ltd at 679-1418 or the AVRSB transportation department at 538-4666.

Have a safe and fun summer!

Mike Ouellette

Principal
